ICDM Pulse: Lessons Learned, Paths Ahead
A timely moment for reflection as we wrap up the new year.
Reflecting on these past twelve months, I want to share what this journey has meant to me personally. Stepping into the role of CEO at ICDM in August this year has been both humbling and energising. However, what has stood out most is not just the milestones we’ve achieved, but the people behind them—our distinguished members, stakeholders, partners, and most importantly the dedicated ICDM team. We are deeply grateful to our esteemed Board for their leadership, guidance and stewardship, which continues to shape and strengthen the work that we do.
A Year of Shared Impact
This year was defined by connection and elevation. As part of our stewardship journey, we launched our inaugural Elite Stewardship Circle, creating a platform for stewardship excellence, and had the privilege of conferring ICDM’s highest distinction—the Honorary Fellow (HF)—to four exemplary leaders in corporate governance.
Our commitment to strengthening governance took us across the country. Through our strategic partnership with the Sarawak Centre of Corporate Excellence (SCOPE) and the Sarawak Corporate Leadership Summit 2025, alongside a strengthened presence in Johor and Penang, we saw first-hand the strong commitment to good governance nationwide.
We also focused heavily on the future talent pipeline and deepened our advocacy for stronger board composition this year -we celebrated Batch 2 of ADIP® graduates, continued our advocacy with MIBA on board composition, guided Bumiputera companies via TERAJU’s IPO Pathway, and continued to run with Bursa Malaysia programmes to equip directors with the expertise and independence the market demands. Others include the Board-Ready Women (BRW) Programme 2025, in collaboration with Deloitte Malaysia, BoardRoom Group, and the 30% Club Malaysia as we worked to prepare the next generation of women board leaders.
On the policy front, we deepened our engagement by convening two engagements of CG Engagement Sessions, co‑hosted an AI governance roundtable with the National AI Office, and collaborated with the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) and the Institutional Investor Council Malaysia (IIC) to host a high‑level closed‑door session on board effectiveness and the evolving roles of independent directors. Our engagement with the Organisation for Economic Co‑operation and Development (OECD) further opened doors to explore synergies in strengthening governance practices and aligning with global standards.
Strengthening Our Community
As a testament to the growing commitment to governance excellence, 99 Speedmart has also joined us as a Lifetime Member with a 15‑year tenure — the longest membership commitment we have received to date. Their decision reflects the same discipline and long‑term vision that has shaped their rise from a single mini‑market to one of Malaysia’s most notable IPO success stories. We are honoured to support their board and leadership team as they continue building a strong governance foundation for the future. Our Individual Membership has grown to over 2,300 member, underscoring the strength of the governance movement and the trust placed in our mission nationwide. Full update here.

Looking to 2026
Next year is set to be a defining year for ICDM and our regional partners as we’re taking the next leap in governance professionalism.
We are preparing for the much-anticipated Professional Director Certification Programme (PDCF). The PDCF sets a clear pathway for directors at every stage, from Graduate Director to Certified Director and Fellow Certified Director, ensuring boards are equipped to lead with competence, integrity, and future‑readiness. This unified standard strengthens public trust, elevates market confidence, and prepares Malaysian boards for an increasingly complex landscape. In the coming months, ICDM will be engaging regulators and industry bodies through roundtables and focus groups to refine the PDCF, supported by our Board Director Blueprint Study, which provides empirical insights from Malaysia’s top‑performing boards.

We will also introduce key reports to deepen boardroom insights, roll out new advocacy initiatives, and host the International Directors Summit (IDS 2026) as our flagship platform for governance leaders.
Beyond our borders, we see the ASEAN Institutes of Directors (IODs) emerging as a powerhouse collective—driving progress in board independence and capacity building across the region.
The boardroom is evolving, and I believe the future belongs to leaders who are ready to embrace change with vision and heart.
Thank you for walking with us on this journey, and for your patience during our quiet spell. Your support inspires us every day.
May 2026 bring you health, prosperity, strategic clarity and total boardroom consensus!
